Activities undertaken
- Submitted reports on Emergency Food Assistance in Syria across five governorates: Damascus, Rural Damascus, Hama, Homs and Daraa.
- Collected field information using monitoring and evaluation tools, surveys, focus groups and personal interviews to examine the studied factors.
- Prepared final reports on food-aid distribution and provided recommendations to improve the process.
03 WFP Monitoring and Evaluation of a Blanket Supplementary Feeding Programme (BSFP) and Voucher Programme for Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW)
Activities undertaken
- Monitored the contribution of vouchers to dietary diversity among target beneficiaries at household and individual level on a monthly basis.
- Conducted direct monitoring of activity implementation, both onsite and post-distribution, across Homs, Lattakia and Tartous.
- Contributed to rating programme success and ensuring proper implementation.
04 UNRWA Evaluation of UNRWA’s Nutrition Assistance in Selected Locations in Syria
Activities undertaken
- Participated in estimating the Emergency Food Assistance programme according to UNRWA across Damascus, Rural Damascus, Homs, Aleppo and Daraa.
- Independently evaluated work quality through personal interviews with key persons, focus groups and monitoring procedures to ensure the distribution process.
05 UNICEF Evaluation of MICAD Support to the UNICEF Humanitarian Response in Syria
Activities undertaken
- Provided MICAD (United Arab Emirates Ministry of International Cooperation and Development) with sufficient information on the programme's relevance, effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability.
- Participated in monitoring and controlling UNICEF's training and capacity-building work in nutrition education and promotion.
- Provided practical recommendations to improve the programme's existing tools and approach, including the distribution of acute-malnutrition treatment and screening of women and children in Damascus, Rural Damascus, Homs, Lattakia and Tartous.
06 UNICEF Conducting a Market Survey
Activities undertaken
- Generated a database of potential manufacturers and traders in each category of goods and services across Damascus, Lattakia, Tartous, Homs, Aleppo and Qamishli, helping UNICEF expand its supplier database and ensure fair competition.
- Reviewed UNICEF's existing database, confirmed whether registered companies remained active in the same business line, updated supplier profiles and contacts, and physically verified premises and warehouses.
- Reviewed companies that had recently expressed interest in doing business with UNICEF, assessed profile information, visited candidates and shortlisted potential manufacturers and suppliers for local procurement.
- Identified at least ten suppliers in every category listed in Annex A.
- Selection criteria covered business area, production and operational capacity, presence in UNICEF's database, expressed interest, government records of approved manufacturers and traders, and AFKAR's experience with firms absent from those sources.
- Designed a dedicated questionnaire to capture all required manufacturer and trader information.
07 UNICEF Monitoring and Organizational Learning for UNICEF Unconditional Child Cash Transfers to Families with Children with Identified Vulnerabilities in Syria
Activities undertaken
- Pre-monitoring and beneficiary verification: prepared a checklist of family-selection criteria and a questionnaire with direct and indirect questions designed for accurate verification.
- Collected data from a random beneficiary sample through personal interviews in Tartous, Lattakia and Aleppo, followed by statistical analysis and reporting.
- Established a post-distribution monitoring system, informed by experience from other countries, to verify receipt by intended beneficiaries, gather complaints and suggestions for timely corrective action, and assess effects on family well-being by tracking spending.
- Conducted focus-group discussions to obtain richer qualitative evidence, investigate underlying social dynamics and perceptions, and validate findings from other research tools.
- Researchers used mutually agreed discussion guides tailored to questions developed during inception and supervised documentation of the discussions.
08 Terre des Hommes Italy (TDH) – Syria Assessment in Aleppo City for Food Security and Disability
Activities undertaken
- Compiled general city information and statistics, including population, internally displaced people, people in need and estimated age groups.
- Estimated the number of persons with disabilities in western and eastern Aleppo, including suitable estimates for inaccessible areas.
- Mapped health and physiotherapy facilities serving persons with disabilities, comparing facilities operating before the crisis with those currently operating.
- Assessed socio-economic conditions, food consumption, priorities and special needs of persons with disabilities and their families.
- Conducted a rapid market survey of the availability and prices of staple foods and currently operating shops.
09 Terre des Hommes Italy (TDH) – Syria Implementation of an E‑Voucher Assistance Distribution Project
Activities undertaken
- Proposed a digital-payment system for assistance distribution to address weak needs assessment, duplicate assessments, growing numbers of people in need and the difficulty of managing assistance.
- The approach generated additional information, preserved human dignity, strengthened donor confidence, enabled examination of spending and accommodated significant differences in household size.
- Digital payment offered immediate gains for cash and in-kind assistance; its platforms processed transactions and produced separate reports by organization, governorate and assistance type.
- The system formed low-cost assistance infrastructure and could handle cash, vouchers and in-kind support.
- Payments through bank-account cash transfers enabled vulnerable people to access assistance easily and with dignity, strengthening the reliability of humanitarian agencies.
10 MTN – Syria Promotion of MTN Telecommunications Services
Activities undertaken
- Introduced MTN telecommunications services to customers.
- Engaged people and encouraged them to obtain an MTN SIM card from a point of sale.
- Supported increased sales in Damascus, Aleppo, Homs and Lattakia.
11 UN‑HABITAT UN‑HABITAT Urban Information (Phase II)
Activities undertaken
- Provided neighbourhood-level, multi-sector urban information to help humanitarian actors make better-informed decisions on the scale, scope and locations of humanitarian responses.
- Identified opportunities for long-term solutions for sustainable urban service systems and administrative structures.
- Completed multiple questionnaire types through interviews with key informants and households using KoboCollect and the Avenza app.
12 Syrian Experts – DAHHAB2 Event Meeting Job Seekers with Employers to Provide Opportunities for Youth
Activities undertaken
- Enabled Syrian youth to access training opportunities and enter the labour market with appropriate livelihoods through an AFKAR-supported training programme serving hundreds of young people.
13 UNFPA Women's Care Center Project
Activities undertaken
- A development project in Sehnaya for displaced women, covering reproductive and sexual health, psychosocial support, legal consultation, occupational empowerment and capacity building, plus a needs study for the southern region.
- AFKAR designed questionnaires, collected and analysed data, and reported on awareness of reproductive health and safe, regular pregnancy to reduce childhood disability and improve maternal health during pregnancy and postpartum.
- Covered awareness of sexual violence inside and outside the family in all its forms, aiming to reduce sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies.
- Covered legal counselling for abused women, psychosocial support for women and girls, and vocational courses that gave women skills to support themselves and their families.
- Studied needs in the southern region of Damascus Governorate.
14 Syrian Commission for Family Affairs and Population Community Participation and Awareness of Proper Nutrition for Mothers and Children and Action Against Malnutrition
Activities undertaken
- Raised mothers' awareness of proper nutrition for themselves and their children, child protection from malnutrition and methods for measuring childhood malnutrition in Damascus, Rural Damascus, Daraa, As‑Sweida and Quneitra.
- Delivered interactive educational sessions for mothers, with emphasis on breastfeeding, protection against nutritional abuse and measuring childhood malnutrition.
- Prepared, designed and produced information and education materials to deliver vital messages to the widest possible segment of mothers and girls of childbearing age.
- Provided overall administration plus public and technical supervision through an effective system for management, follow-up, information collection and technical reporting.
- Provided warehouse, administration and distribution logistics required for the interactive awareness days.
15 Syrian Commission for Family Affairs and Population & SAYAR Initiative Study on Child Labour and Its Worst Forms
Activities undertaken
- Described and analysed child labour, its principal causes and factors, and its impact on children and society through a comparative, analytical and participatory approach involving all relevant parties, especially working children.
- Identified root causes, the relationship between school dropout and child labour, working conditions, and the principal consequences of the worst forms of child labour for children and society in Homs and Damascus.
- Conducted a regional case-study survey of child-labour locations to identify the socio-economic, service and residential environment and the conditions, forms and factors of child labour and its worst forms.
- Conducted a descriptive analytical household sample survey on living conditions and required interventions.
- Conducted an exploratory brainstorming study with leaders and decision-makers.
- Produced a policy study to create a safe working environment for children and prioritize action using SWOT methodology.

- Applied logic-model, results-based management, Emergency Response Fund and OECD-DAC frameworks to compare indicators across activities and NGOs and direct investment toward the highest-value activities and access to care.
